Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

When you first contact us, we will set up an initial phone consultation, free of charge. This 10 to 15 minute conversation lets you share why you are seeking therapy and lets us ask a few questions to work out whether we are the right fit to help you.

Your first scheduled appointment is an initial consultation without obligation. It gives us a chance to get to know each other, discuss your concerns and goals, and decide how best to proceed.

To schedule, reach out through our contact page. We do our best to return calls and emails within two business days.

What can I expect in the first session?

The initial session is your time to start sharing your story, talk about your goals, and say what you would like to change.

Another important part of the first session is deciding whether we are a good fit. We are establishing a therapeutic relationship that becomes the foundation for working together. You will begin to shape some goals, and your therapist will begin to work out how to help you reach them.

How much does therapy cost in Los Angeles?

Sessions are 50 minutes. Individual sessions with a licensed therapist are $225, and couples sessions are $275. Sessions with an associate therapist range from $135 to $150 for individuals and $135 to $175 for couples.

Full rates are listed in the table above. We offer a sliding scale on a limited basis, so please ask if cost is a barrier.

What is the difference between a licensed therapist and an associate therapist?

An associate therapist has completed a master's degree and is registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, but is still accruing the supervised clinical hours required for full licensure. Every associate at LifeBloom practices under the supervision of Keisha Libbrecht, LMFT #119480, who reviews their clinical work regularly.

Associates are fully qualified clinicians doing real therapeutic work, and they see clients at a lower rate. Many people work with an associate for their entire course of therapy.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

Yes, on a limited basis. We hold a small number of reduced-fee slots for people who need them, and availability changes over time.

If cost is what is standing between you and starting therapy, please tell us during your consultation call. We would rather have the conversation than have you not reach out.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance at this time. We are an out-of-network provider.

If you have a PPO plan and want to submit a claim for out-of-network reimbursement, we can provide a superbill to help. We strongly recommend checking your out-of-network coverage with your insurer before starting therapy. Please note that submitting an insurance claim usually requires a mental health diagnosis.

Navigating insurance is genuinely confusing, and we are happy to suggest questions to ask your carrier before you call.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is an itemized receipt for your sessions that includes the details your insurance company needs to process an out-of-network claim: dates of service, session codes, the fee you paid, and your therapist's information.

You pay us directly, then submit the superbill to your insurer yourself. Any reimbursement goes from them to you. How much you get back, if anything, depends entirely on your plan.

Are sessions online or in person?

Yes. Most of our sessions are held virtually through a secure, confidential telehealth platform, and we work with clients anywhere in California. Some therapists offer in-person appointments in limited circumstances.

Virtual sessions make it far easier to fit therapy around work, caregiving, traffic, and everything else Los Angeles asks of you.

What areas do you serve?

We work with clients throughout Los Angeles, including Culver City, West Los Angeles, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Marina del Rey, Playa Vista, Westchester, Venice, and Beverly Hills.

Because our sessions are virtual, we can also see anyone located anywhere in California.

How do I know which therapist is the right fit?

You do not have to work this out on your own. Tell us a little about what you are looking for and we will match you with up to three therapists whose specialties fit your needs.

You can also read each therapist's page to see how they work and what they focus on. Fit matters more than almost anything else in therapy, and it is completely reasonable to talk to more than one person before deciding.

How long is a therapy session?

Standard individual and couples sessions are 50 minutes.

How long you stay in therapy varies widely. Some people come for a specific concern and finish within a few months, others stay longer for deeper work. You and your therapist will revisit that together as you go.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours notice of cancellation, or the appointment is charged in full. An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency.

The sooner you let your therapist know about a conflict, the better.
